Senior Services: http://www.mifa.org/seniors

Meals: http://www.mifa/org/meals

With the help of 70-100 volunteers, MIFA delivers 2,400 hot, nutritious lunches to seniors’ homes and congregate sites each weekday. At MIFA Meals, the day begins at 3:30 a.m. when the kitchen staff arrives to begin preparing meals. Each meal fulfills at least 1/3 of the U.S. daily dietary requirement. It takes more than $3 million annually to keep MIFA Meals running.

Handyman: http://www.mifa.org/handyman

Critical minor home repairs include: structural issues (collapsing floors, sagging and worn roofs), utility-related problems (heating, malfunctioning electrical outlets, broken water pipes), and home modifications (wheelchair ramps and grab bars). We provide education on basic home maintenance and energy efficiency. MIFA Handyman also uses youth volunteers to assist seniors with yard work, house painting, and other minor projects.

Senior Companion: http://www.mifa.org/seniorcompanion

Senior Companion pairs active, low-income seniors with homebound, disabled, or critically ill peers. Companions provide respite to caregivers and assist clients with grocery shopping, bill paying, and other daily tasks that promote independent living. The most important aspect is human interaction, which improves the quality of life for both individuals.

Long Term Care Ombudsman: http://www.mifa.org/ombudsman

MIFA’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman program advocates for the rights of thousands of residents in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, and residential care homes in Shelby, Tipton, Fayette, and Lauderdale Counties. It is the only advocacy program for long-term care in the four-county area.

MIFA Transit: http://www.mifa.org/transit

MIFA Transit takes seniors to medical appointments, congregate meal sites, government agencies, senior centers, Senior Companion work sites, nutritional facilities, and counseling appointments.
